# The Gauteng Education Department will conduct a disciplinary hearing at Pretoria High School for Girls tonight and tomorrow for twelve learners accused of racism. The learners were suspended after allegedly sharing offensive messages about black classmates on a WhatsApp group. Departement spokesperson Steve Mabona says further allegations against the principal and teachers for not addressing these reports will be reviewed pending the investigation’s outcome. He urges all participants to respect the process.
# The African Transformation Movement is urging Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber to revoke the recently announced visa extensions pending a thorough investigation. This follows the arrest of 95 Libyan nationals in Mpumalanga, who obtained visas under false pretenses and allegedly conducted military training. The ATM’s Zama Ntshona calls for stricter visa scrutiny, continuous monitoring of immigrants, and a province-by-province operation to ensure accountability:
# AfriForum has released its annual landfill audit report which revealed a nationwide crisis, as only 14.3-percent of 189 audited sites meet waste management standards. AfriForum’s Environmental Affairs advisor, Marais de Vaal, says there is an increased decline in landfill conditions. He asks for urgent action from municipalities, and proposes partnerships with the private sector to address the waste management failures:
# Saftu is calling on SANTACO and the National Taxi Alliance as the shareholders of Shesha, to discipline and permanently block those Shesha drivers who are found to be engaged in the intimidation, harassment and extortion of Bolt and Uber drivers. Saftu spokesperson Trevor Shaku says Uber and Bolt drivers are forced to convert to the Shesha app, claiming they are illegally arrested and fined:
# Olympic Games: South Africa is currently in joint twelfth position on the medal table after swimmer Tatjana Smith clinched gold and the Blitzboks and mountain biker Alan Hatherly both bronze. Japan is surprisingly in first position with six gold out of its 12 medals, followed by hosts France with five gold out of 16, and China with five gold out of 12. Australia is in fourth place, followed by South Korea, Team USA and Great Britain. Italy is in eighth position, followed by Canada and Hong Kong.
