# The Investigating Directorate against Corruption’s head of investigations, Matthews Sesoko, has told the Madlanga commission he does not understand why former head Andrea Johnson described the directorate’s operations manual as a draft. He responding to chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga and evidence leader Thabang Pooe’s questions. Sesoko says the manual was distributed to staff on Johnson’s instruction, and Johnson’s handling of certain Crime Intelligence matters was never authorised by the directorate:

Meanwhile, the Activists and Citizens Forum has urged president Cyril Ramaphosa to remove suspended Police minister Senzo Mchunu, saying recent testimony before the Madlanga commission has further damaged his credibility. Spokesperson Dennis Bloem says allegations linking Mchunu to political interference and discussions about changes within Crime Intelligence are too serious to ignore. He argues the public can no longer trust Mchunu and has called on the president to act in the country’s best interests.

# The DA in Gauteng says it is shocking that over 22-thousand child abuse reports were recorded since 2023, but the provincial Education Department cannot account for investigation timelines. A total of 695 cases of rape, 423 of sexual assault, and 74 of sexual harassment were recorded. Spokesperson Sergio Isa dos Santos says this exposes the shocking extent of abuse in Gauteng schools and the department’s failure to protect learners:

# Iran has warned Gulf states that any new US attack on its territory would trigger retaliation against energy infrastructure across the region. According to Reuters, Iranian Foreign minister Abbas Araqchi urged Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other regional partners to use their influence to prevent further military action by Washington. The warning follows US president Donald Trump’s recent threat to target Iran’s energy facilities. Gulf states are reportedly pushing for diplomacy to avoid a wider conflict that could disrupt global oil supplies and further destabilise the Middle East.

# Rugby: SuperSport has secured the broadcast rights for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry, ensuring South African fans can watch every match of the historic Springboks-All Blacks tour live on DStv and GOtv. The agreement covers all four Tests as well as the provincial clashes featuring the All Blacks against the Stormers, the Sharks, the Bulls and the Lions. It marks New Zealand’s first full tour of South Africa in 30 years. Officials say the Test series promises to deliver another memorable chapter in one of the sport’s greatest rivalries.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-31-cents and the euro at 18-rand-82-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-95-cents and Bitcoin trades at 64-thousand-572-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-261-dollars-85-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-54-cents a barrel.
