# The family of the EFF in Tshwane’s murdered secretary and election coordinator, Monicca Dube, has revealed previous assassinations attempts on her life. Her husband, Hilton, believes more people are involved besides a 35-year-old suspect expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court today. Dube was shot dead at her Wallmannsthal home last month. Her husband says the arrest brings hope in a community where many killings remain unsolved:

# Eskom has received regulatory approval to launch its renewable energy business, Eskom Green, and raise funding. CEO Dan Marokane calls it an important milestone in the further implementation of their strategy in the areas of unbundling, delivering utility-scale renewable energy capacity, and reducing carbon emissions and other air pollutants. He adds Eskom Green is targeting to deliver up to 32-gigawatt by 2040. This still leaves over two-thirds of the renewable energy generation opportunities open to the private sector, and enable investors to partner and invest with Eskom Green.

# The DA in the Western Cape is concerned by the 17-percent learner’s licence pass rate recorded under the new Computerised Learner Licence Testing system during the previous financial year. The system selects randomised questions from a database of around one-thousand-200 questions. The DA’s Nomafrench Mbombo says the party supports reforms that improve road safety and reduce opportunities for fraud, but these changes must be accompanied by effective public education:

Moving abroad:

# President Donald Trump has directed the US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, to impose a 25-percent tariff on most Brazilian imports, citing unfair trade practices. The tariffs will go into effect next Wednesday, with key products including beef, coffee, pharmaceuticals and certain raw materials being exempt. Greer says their investigation concluded Brazilian policies harm the interests of Americans with practices relating to digital trade, unfair preferential tariffs, ethanol market access and other areas. He says the US remains open to continuing negotiations with Brazil to resolve the issues.

# Soccer: Manager Thomas Tuchel plans to stay on to lead England into Euro 2028. The German is facing criticism for his defensive substitutions in the World Cup semifinal in Atlanta, where they squandered a 1-0 lead to suffer a 2-1 defeat to reigning champion, Argentina. Tuchel signed a two-year contract extension in February after being appointed in January 2025. He takes full responsibility for the decisions he made during the match:
