# Crime intelligence bosses lodge a complaint over an IDAC incident

# Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and senior police officer Nozipho Madondo have filed formal complaints with Justice minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, acting Police minister Firoz Cachalia, and the National Prosecuting Authority, over the handling of an Investigating Directorate Against Corruption operation. The pair allege they were instructed to report to Brooklyn police station in Tshwane with overnight bags in anticipation of arrest warrants, which were never executed. The incident has sparked allegations of intimidation and political interference.
# Police deployed its political killings task team to investigate four murders involving political party members during the voter registration weekend. Acting commissioner Puleng Dimpane says the cases include the killing of a DA by-election candidate in Cape Town, an ANC councillor in the Eastern Cape, and two MK Party members on the Gauteng West Rand. She says all victims were attacked while returning from voter registration activities. Investigations are ongoing.
# Western Cape Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism MEC Ivan Meyer outlined a four-point emergency response plan to improve efficiency at the port of Cape Town. It was ranked the worst among 400 global ports in the World Bank’s 2025 Container Port Performance Index. The plan includes congestion management and mitigation of operational disruptions. Meyer says the harbour nonetheless reported a 33-percent improvement in vessel turnaround times, showing early signs of progress:
# Rugby: New All Blacks captain Ardie Savea relishes the challenge of leading the three-time champion to next year’s World Cup in Australia. New coach Dave Rennie appointed him when announcing his squad for the home Nations Championship Tests. Savea takes over from injured Scott Barrett. 2023’s world player of the year says he is lucky to have great people, leaders and coaches within the set-up. New Zealand plays France in Christchurch on 4 July, Italy in Wellington on the 11th and Ireland in Auckland a week later.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-46-cents and the euro at 18-rand-77-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-313-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-127-dollars-60-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-28-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The Public Servants Association is commemorating Public Service Day to recognise the value of public service and the contribution of public servants to development, democracy, and effective governance. PSA’s Claude Naicker welcomes recent amendments to the Public Service Act as a step towards strengthening governance, accountability, and efficiency. He adds Public Service reform must not become a top-down exercise that creates uncertainty for employees or weakens hard-won labour rights:
