# Ten people are killed in a crash in Mpumalanga

# Ten people have died in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a bus on the R39 between Standerton and Morgenzon in Mpumalanga this morning. Nine victims, including the taxi driver, died at the scene, while another died in hospital. Four others were seriously injured and admitted to Standerton Hospital. Authorities say the cause of the crash is under investigation, although reckless and negligent driving have not been ruled out.
# The Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against suspended police Sergeant Fannie Nkosi of the Organised Crime Unit to the 22nd of July for further proceedings. The state plans to centralise all matters against Nkosi, including a Thohoyandou case involving alleged interference in a drug investigation. Nkosi remains in custody after bail was denied. His bail appeal will be heard in the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday. Nkosi faces charges linked to firearms, explosives, ammunition, police dockets and cash seized during a raid.
# The DA has demanded minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, fire Construction Education and Training Authority administrator, Oupa Nkoane. He unilaterally determined and approved his own three-million-rand salary package, without the department or the minister’s authorisation. The DA’s Karabo Khakhau says an administrator should be an honest public servant who is free from any allegations and implications of corruption:
# Cape Town’s mayoral committee has greenlit plans for inner-city affordable housing and mixed-use development of a municipal parking lot at the Civic Centre in the CBD. The site is currently used as an open-air staff parking facility. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the site is strategically located withinthe Foreshore precinct, and close to major public transport infrastructure:
# Rugby: Versatile Springbok back Ethan Hooker has committed to the Sharks for the next three years until 2029. The 23-year-old arrived in Durban in 2023 and represented the union in the United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup in altogether 20 matches. He played the first of his eight Tests for South Africa last year. Hooker is currently on the sidelines with a shoulder injury and will miss the Nations Championship Tests against England, Scotland and Wales, but should be fit for the All Blacks’ tour of South Africa.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-54-cents and the euro at 19-rand-21-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-20-cents and Bitcoin trades at 77-thousand-260-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-517-dollars-17-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 102-dollars-82-cents a barrel.
