# National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has assured the public and affected families that the SAPS is actively pursuing leads in the double murder case of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane. Mathe acknowledges the sensitivity of the matter and affirms progress over the past year, with critical evidence linking identified suspects. AKA and Tibz were assassinated outside Wish on Florida restaurant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal a year ago:
# The case against Eskom Safety Risk Manager Thandi Ruth Magagula, based in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, has been postponed to March 26, 2024, by the Middleburg Regional Court. Magagula faces charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering, following her arrest by the Hawks in Middelburg. Allegations suggest she failed to declare a conflict of interest while serving as both an Eskom manager and a director of a company providing services to Eskom. Magagula was granted bail of ten thousand rand.
# The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment has urged people again not to consume washed-up marine animals found along the West Coast, due to the annual red tide phenomenon. These include prawns, crabs, cuttlefish, seaworms, shark rays, and lobsters. The department’s spokesperson, Peter Mbelengwa, says the appearance of washed-up lobsters carries significant health risks, due to potential contamination by algal toxins that can cause severe illness or death when ingested:
# Cricket: A monumental all-round performance from the Sunrisers Eastern Cape saw them crush Durban’s Super Giants by 89-runs to clinch their second straight SA20 title at Newlands in Cape Town last night. News24 reports the Sunrisers Eastern Cape dominated from start to finish to win back-to-back SA20 titles. In a sold-out Newlands final, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape were clinical as they beat the Durban Super Giants by 89 runs. Skipper Aiden Markram hailed his team’s performance, with DSG’s Lance Klusener stating Sunrisers were “light years” ahead.
# And finally, Soccer: President Cyril Ramaphosa will attend the Football for Humanity match between the Palestinian national team and a South African side at Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium this afternoon. Held under the theme, Peace, Hope, and Solidarity, the event aims to provide Palestinian players with the opportunity to play in peaceful conditions. The South African Invitational XI will face the Palestinian visitors in the Freedom Cup next Sunday, coached by football legends Jomo Sono and Farouk Khan.
