# The Malawian repatriation from Durban is temporarily halted
# And road running: George Kusche claims victory in the Comrades Marathon
# MK Party president Jacob Zuma has urged black South Africans to register to vote this coming weekend ahead of the November 4 Local Government elections. Speaking to supporters at the Delft South Community Hall in Cape Town, Zuma called on eligible voters to use their voting power to address ongoing socio-economic challenges and reclaim land. Zuma stressed that citizens remain trapped by unemployment, inequality, and limited access to opportunities. He emphasised that meaningful change can only come through the ballot box.
# The South African Communist Party general-secretary Solly Mapaila says as the party charts its independent electoral path, it faces critical challenges ahead of the local government elections. Speaking during their Limpopo elective congress, Mapaila described the organisation as bigger than any electoral contest. He urged members to avoid internal divisions, remain disciplined and put the interests of communities ahead of personal ambitions, as South Africans seek truthful leadership:
# ActionSA Mpumalanga provincial chairperson Thoko Mashiane has welcomed the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs budget, which allocates 2.37-billion-rand for the 2026/27 financial year. Mashiane says the budget must deliver tangible results despite concerns over reduced housing grant funding and cuts to capital expenditure. She also highlighted ongoing delays in housing projects and the asbestos eradication programme. She called for improved oversight and accountability:
# The voluntary repatriation of Malawian nationals from Durban has been temporarily suspended following discrepancies in passenger lists. South African Home Affairs officials and Malawian immigration authorities discovered that several names had been duplicated, resulting in some individuals being allocated to more than one bus. Officials have paused the operation while records are verified. eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba says authorities are working to resolve the logistical challenges to ensure seamless repatriation:
# And finally sports news:
# Road running: George Kusche has won the 2026 Comrades Marathon, storming to victory in the up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a record time of 5 hours, 15 minutes, and 56 seconds. Kusche produced a perfectly paced race, overtaking long-time leader Mbuti Mollo on the challenging Polly Shorts climb with just over ten-kilometres remaining. Defending champion Piet Wiersma finished second, while Mollo held on for third place. Gerda Steyn won the women’s race, claiming her fifth overall title and fourth consecutive victory.
# And tennis: Leading tennis players have welcomed the 20-percent increase in Wimbledon prize money as a genuine and significant step forward. The total prize fund at this year’s championships will be 64.2-million British pounds, or equal to about 1.4-billion in South African rand. The singles’ champions will each take home 3.6-million pounds, with first-round losers paid 80-thousand pounds. More than 6-million pounds has been set aside for the qualifying competition – an increase of 25-percent. Players have long argued that they play a significant role in the success of tournaments.
