# The FW de Klerk Foundation is calling for the establishment of a government of national unity. This comes as the ANC has failed to secure a majority in this year’s elections, meaning it will need to form a coalition government. Speaking to eNCA, the foundation’s director, Christo van der Rheede, says this would include political parties loyal to the Constitution and committed to the Bill of Rights.
Meanwhile, the DA in KwaZulu-Natal has denounced the possibility of forming coalitions with the MK Party and the EFF. Provincial chairperson Dean Macpherson says while they will engage in coalition talks, the EFF and MK are non-negotiable partners as their policies do not align:
# A Gautrain auditor has been placed on special leave after being charged with assaulting his daughter. The man faces a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is currently out on two-thousand-rand bail. The man allegedly assaulted his 18-year-old daughter until she lost consciousness because she attended a birthday party without his permission. The Gautrain Management Agency says it condemns any form of violence and abuse and is allowing the law to take its course.
# Claudia Sheinbaum has been elected as Mexico’s first female president in a historic landslide win. Preliminary results show the 61-year-old former mayor of Mexico City took between 58-to-60-percent of the vote in Sunday’s election. This gives her a lead of almost 30 percentage points over her main rival. Sheinbaum will replace her mentor, outgoing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on the first of October. Sheinbaum, a former energy scientist, has promised continuity, saying she will continue to build on the advances made by Obrador.
# Rugby: World Cup winner Marco van Staden is a doubt for the Bulls’ United Rugby Championship quarterfinal clash against Italian side Benetton in Pretoria on Saturday. He left the field with an undetermined injury during the Bulls’ 26-14 victory against the Sharks in Durban on Saturday. Van Staden recently returned to the playing field after he sustained a ligament injury. Bulls’ director of rugby, Jake White, says they have some options:
