# And, golf: Scottie Scheffler hangs on at Augusta, but Tiger Woods implodes
# The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has warned the police to stay out of politics. This comes after its provincial premier candidate, Thami Ntuli, complained recently about alleged harassment and undignified treatment by SAPS and Durban Metro Police in Cornubia, Durban. The IFP’s provincial Youth Brigade chairperson, Mncedisi Maphisa, says there have been various attempts to obstruct the party’s election campaigning activities:
# The United Democratic Movement in the Western Cape urges the National Disaster Management Centre to prioritise allocating funds to the provincial government to assist thousands of now homeless people affected by floods. It says residents of informal settlements, often overlooked, are left to rebuild their shelters on their own. The UDM’s Bongani Maqungwana says the immediate release of funds is essential to ensure people have access to dignified living spaces:
# The Freedom Front Plus in Tshwane says another 16 urban city improvement districts applications have been approved and about 20 more are in the pipeline. In November last year, the Tshwane council adopted the FF Plus’ CID initiative as part of its official policy. The party’s Grandi Theunissen says the main aim is to improve service delivery in specific areas with a focus on ensuring safe residential and commercial areas:
# US president Joe Biden has praised American forces for helping take down nearly all of the hundreds of drones and missiles launched by Iran on Israel today. Biden says the US had moved aircraft and warships to the region before the unprecedented attack, which he describes as ‘brazen’. Israel says it is the first time Iran attacked it directly from its own territory. Iran earlier warned Israel would be punished for a strike on its consulate in Syria on 1 April, which killed seven Iranian officers.
# And, golf: American world number one Scottie Scheffler hung on to the Masters lead on an eventful third day at Augusta where Tiger Woods’ dream of a sixth green jacket ended in a nightmare. Scheffler shot a one-under 71 to move seven under and one clear of another American, Collin Morikawa. Woods played the worst nine holes of his Masters career over the front nine. He fired a six-over 42 with two double bogeys and three bogeys against a lone birdie.
