# The DA wins the case for more voting stations abroad for the upcoming elections

# The DA has welcomed the Electoral Court’s ruling setting aside the Election Commission’s decision not to allow the casting of special votes at consulates. In February, the DA took the IEC and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to court to request that embassies, high commissions and consulates be included as voting stations for next month’s general elections. The DA Federal Council’s chairperson, Helen Zille, says this is an enormous victory for South Africans living overseas.
# Gauteng police have arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs. The 24-year-old soccer player was shot and killed in a hijacking at a petrol station in the northwest of Johannesburg last week Wednesday. Police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, says the suspects will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday:
# Simon Harris became Ireland’s youngest prime minister ever. The country’s Parliament approved the 37-year-old as successor to Leo Varadkar, who unexpectedly resigned last month, citing personal as well as political reasons. Varadkar tendered his official resignation to president Michael D Higgins on Monday. Harris, the minister for Further and Higher Education, was the only candidate to put his name forward. He will head a coalition government consisting of his party, Fine Gael, as well as Finna Fail and the Green Party.
# Rugby: World Rugby hails what it terms a landmark outcome after an Australian court fined a man for the social media abuse of an official during last year’s World Cup in France. Aaron Isaia made threats to television match official Brian MacNeice during the match between Samoa and England. He pleaded guilty. World Rugby announced it was taking steps to ban Isaia from buying tickets for future events, saying they hope the sentence sends the message that such behaviour is totally unacceptable.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-46-cents and the euro at 20-rand-4-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-42-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-378-dollars-96-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-353-dollars-19-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 89-dollars-77-cents a barrel.
# And, World Travel Market Africa, the continent’s leading exhibition for both inbound and outbound travel and tourism market, opens its doors at the Cape Town International Convention Centre today. It brings together tourism industry professionals including exhibitors, buyers and media for three days of trade, networking and deal-making. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says since 2014, the event has resulted in approximately 200-million-rand in foreign direct spending into the Cape Town economy:
