# SAMA says healthcare needs to be fixed for the NHI to work

# The South African Medical Association says there are a number of healthcare issues to be fixed before the country will be ready to roll out the National Health Insurance system. SAMA chairperson Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa says issues like sewers freely flowing through hospitals, the lack of specialised medicine, and broken equipment will negatively impact the rollout of the NHI. Mzukwa says although SAMA fully supports a system of universal healthcare, the matter of unemployed medical professionals also needs to be addressed:
# Transnet’s Cape Town Container Terminal has achieved a new milestone by loading a record one-thousand-726 refrigerated containers of fruit onto the Santa Rita vessel bound for Europe. This surpasses the previous record of one-thousand-711 containers loaded in 2021. Acting manager Oscar Borchards attributes the success to enhanced operational strategies, including closer monitoring of shift changes. The terminal currently has three vessels on berth and two at anchor, with plans to load 16-thousand-115 twenty-foot equivalent units this week.
# The City of Tshwane has issued dismissal letters to two Tshwane Metro Police officials who were found guilty of serious misconduct, including extortion. An additional five officials have also been issued with written warnings. Disciplinary proceedings against the two officials started in February and August last year, respectively. Mayoral committee member for Community Safety, Grandi Theunissen says Tshwane is duty bound to use every avenue to ensure that officials who break the law, face the necessary consequences:
# The Kenya Wildlife Service has relocated 21 Eastern black rhinos from reserves such as Ol Pejeta, Lewa, and the Nairobi National Park, to the Loisaba Conservancy. The operation is part of the national rhino range expansion project. KWS research scientist David Ndeere says the project’s goal is to secure additional space for Kenya’s black rhino population to thrive and benefit the entire country:
# Tennis: The former world number one Rafael Nadal hopes to compete at this year’s French Open as well as the Olympics. The 37-year-old Spaniard has won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record 14 French Open crowns. In an interview on Wednesday, he said he didn’t know which events he had left to play but it was not going to be many. Nadal pulled out of next week’s Qatar Open as he has not recovered from a torn muscle he suffered in Brisbane last month.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-99-cents and the euro at 20-rand-38-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-84-cents and Bitcoin trades at 51-thousand-998-dollars-36-cents. Gold sells at one-thousand-995-dollars-25-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-92-cents a barrel.
