# International Relations and Cooperation minister Ronald Lamola says the United States will receive the G20 presidency handover at DIRCO offices in Pretoria on a set date. This follows Washington’s absence from the G20 leaders summit and its decision to send a chargé d’affaires. Lamola says South Africa insists the handover will occur at an equivalent diplomatic level. He says DIRCO all necessary G20 transition materials will be formally handed over:
Lamola meanwhile has announced the second phase of the G20 Compact with Africa, set to run from 2025 to 2033. He says the new phase will deepen collaboration and partnerships with the private sector to enhance economic growth through skills and employment. He welcomed G20 leaders’ support and confirmed a joint communiqué will follow, outlining commitments to enhance Africa’s capabilities:
And the Johannesburg Metro Police Department has warned of heavy VIP movements today as G20 delegates leave the Nasrec summit. JMPD’s Xolani Fihla says rolling road closures on highways and major routes will cause sudden standstill traffic of up to an hour. Key closures affect the Nasrec precinct, while Sandton and Rosebank will see major delays. With thunderstorms expected, he urges motorists to drive cautiously and avoid highways where possible:
# The mayoral committee member for Public Safety in Johannesburg, Mgcini Tshwaku, says the Johannesburg Metro Police Department have uncovered an illegal codeine-dagga stash worth over 20-million-rand in a hijacked Houghton building, east of the Johannesburg. Authorities on the intelligence-driven operation say the mixture was allegedly being prepared for transport to Zimbabwe. Eight suspects have been arrested.
