# President Cyril Ramaphosa says beyond the headlines and debates around trade policy and political frictions, US and South African businesses are forging ahead. He addressed the Trade and Investment Dialogue between South African and US businesses in New York last week. In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa says the companies commended the reforms being undertaken by the government and the prospects for growth in the economy. He adds the country will continue to advocate for the principle of reciprocity in investment and trade relations with America.
# ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula says the Patriotic Alliance’s threat to leave the government of national unity will not destabilise the coalition government. PA leader Gayton McKenzie has threatened to pull his party out of the coalition government if Kenny Kunene is not reinstated as Johannesburg’s mayoral committee member for Transport by tomorrow. He claims mayor Dada Morero is conspiring with the EFF to give the position to them. Mbalula told eNCA they are dealing with the PA’s concerns:
# The Limpopo Transport Department says an investigation is underway after 12 people were killed in a collision involving a minibus taxi and two trucks on the R81 at Ga-Sekgopo between Mooketsi and Polokwane yesterday. According to reports, the occupants of the minibus taxi were travelling from a church service at Solomondale township outside Polokwane to Magoro village, outside Giyani, when the accident happened. Limpopo premier Stanley Mathabatha’s spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, says one of the truck drivers sustained minor injuries:

# China’s former minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tang Renjian, was sentenced to death with reprieve, for bribery, at a court in Jilin province. This is according to state-run news agency Xinhua. In September last year, Tang was removed as minister and in November expelled from the Chinese Communist Party. In April this year, Tang was indicted on suspicion of accepting bribes and tried.
# Soccer: Arsenal staged a late comeback to beat Newcastle United 2-1 and close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to two points. Newcastle took the lead in the first half through Nick Woltemade. Substitute Mikel Merino headed Arsenal level with six minutes of regulation time to go, before Gabriel Magalhães’ 96th-minute header sealed the victory. Liverpool was beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace, their first defeat of the season. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his team made a statement with this victory:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-26-cents and the euro at 20-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-20-cents and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-664-dollars.
