# The president of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira has congratulated president Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election. Charumbira says the renewal of his mandate attests to the confidence political parties and by extension, the people of South Africa, have in Ramaphosa’s ability to steer the country towards the fulfillment of the hopes, ideals and aspirations of its people. Charumbira reaffirms the Pan African Parliament’s commitment to continue working closely with South Africa.
# The agricultural union TLU SA says it stands ready to collaborate with government for effective measures to combat farm violence. CEO Bennie van Zyl says on Thursday, farmer Tollie Nel was shot and killed in his home in KwaZulu-Natal, before the attackers fled. Van Zyl says farmers are the backbone of the country’s agricultural sector, and their safety is of the utmost importance:
# The Jacob Zuma Foundation says its late chairperson Dudu Myeni’s family is still dealing with her passing and will not respond to media enquiries. Myeni was expected to appear in the High Court in Johannesburg for alleged corruption in November after the case was postponed due to her cancer treatment. The foundation’s spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi confirms the former South African Airways board chairperson passed away on Friday night:
# Cricket: England are through to the T20 World Cup Super 8s after Australia battled past Scotland in St Lucia. England’s earlier rain-interrupted 41-run win over Namibia meant Scotland needed a win to progress. Australia, who won by five wickets, were already through. In Florida, India’s final group game at the tournament against Canada was abandoned due to a wet outfield. Not a ball has been bowled at Broward County Stadium with all three scheduled games at the venue abandoned due to rain.
# And, on Youth Day, the City of Cape Town says it has a number of programmes designed to empower, upskill and enable young people to grab hold of future opportunities. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Patricia van der Ross, says while this month shines a spotlight on youth, young people can access a range of programmes and opportunities all year round:
