# And boxing, the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is postponed
# The DA secured 75.23-percent of the votes cast outside of the country. South Africans abroad voted on the weekend of the 17th to the 19th of May. The EFF received 4.4-percent of the votes followed by the ANC at 3.92-percent, RISE Mzansi got 3.54-percent and the Freedom Front Plus rounds off the top five with 3.03-percent. A total of 39-thousand-116 votes were cast of which 32 were spoilt leaving 39-thousand-and-84 valid votes.
The ANC, however, remains in the lead nationally as the Electoral Commission is nearly complete with processing the voting district results. Preliminary results show the ANC at 40.2-percent followed by the DA at 21.69-percent and the MK Party at 14.74-percent. In the hotly contested KwaZulu-Natal, MK is leading with 45.35-percent followed by the IFP at 18.02-percent and the ANC third with 16.98-percent. In Gauteng, the ANC leads with 34.33-percent followed by the DA and the EFF. In the Western Cape, the DA is maintaining its majority with 55.33-percent followed by the ANC at 19.46-percent.
Meanwhile the heads of four African observer missions have commended the Electoral Commission, political parties, and South African citizens for free and peaceful elections. The observers including African Union Election Observation Mission and the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa, were deployed to several parts of the country to observe aspects of the elections. Zambia’s former vice-president, Enoch Kavindele, says they commend South Africans for the political maturity, and spirit of tolerance during this electoral period:
# United Nations secretary-general António Guterres has welcomed Israel’s new proposal for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The three-part proposal would begin with a six-week ceasefire in which the Israel Defence Forces would withdraw from Gaza, release of hostages in return for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners being freed, and surge of humanitarian aid. UN’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, says the situation in Gaza is dire:
# Boxing: The much-anticipated fight between former world champion Mike Tyson and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Texas has been postponed. This comes after Tyson has been unable to train after a recent ulcer flare-up. The 57-year-old, who retired from professional boxing back in 2005 with 50 wins and 6 losses as a former undisputed heavyweight champion, says he will be back in full training soon. Twenty-seven-year-old Paul has won nine of his ten fights. A new date will be announced later this month.
