# And, tennis: Swiatek’s perfect 10 in Stuttgart as Vondrousova stuns Sabalenka
# AfriForum has rallied behind Unisa’s acting vice principal for Finance, Reshma Mathura, as she files a complaint with the Hawks. Mathura alleges a conspiracy to falsely implicate her in criminal activity, with unsolicited payments made to her account. AfriForum communications manager, Barry Bateman, says they have called for Unisa Council chairperson Daniel Mosia’s intervention regarding Mathura’s plight, accusing management of negligence and fostering suspicion:
# The City of Tshwane celebrates the Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn a High Court order, allowing the city to enforce its credit by-laws and disconnect electricity to Zambezi Retail Park Centre. The ruling clarifies that sectional title owners cannot demand individual electricity supply. The city’s Lindela Mashigo urges customers to settle arrears promptly, emphasising the importance of proper management by body corporates:
# The Police ministry is hosting a Crime Prevention Imbizo in Gugulethu, Western Cape, aiming to address safety concerns and combat criminality. Gugulethu hosts high-crime communities and is among the top ten precincts for murders in the province, with firearms being the primary weapon. Today’s Imbizo focuses on tackling serious and violent crimes and fostering closer collaboration between residents and law enforcement agencies to enhance police response.
# Ukraine shot down a Russian strategic bomber yesterday after the warplane took part in a long-range airstrike that killed eight people, including two children, in the central Dnipro-petrovsk region. Reuters quotes Kyiv as saying Russia stepped up its long-range aerial assaults on Ukraine’s energy system and other targets in recent weeks, ratcheting up the pressure behind the front lines where Russian forces have been slowly advancing in the east. Russia denies targeting civilians and says the energy system is a legitimate target, but hundreds of civilians have been killed during airstrikes.
# And, tennis: World number one and defending champion Iga Swiatek took her Stuttgart winning streak to ten matches with a straight sets victory over Emma Raducanu, while Marketa Vondrousova stunned three-time runner-up Aryna Sabalenka to also make the semi-finals. Top seed Swiatek, the 2022 and 2023 champion at the German clay-court tournament, saw off former US Open champion Raducanu 7-6, 6-3 in her quarter-final. The 22-year-old Pole needed just over two hours to defeat Raducanu, who was playing in her first quarter-final since 2022.
