BULLETIN 1 June 10:00
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Julius Malema says the EFF remains resolute in continuing to fight for economic freedom
# Alan Winde says he is committed to continue serving the people of the Western Cape
# And rugby: The Blitzboks suffer defeat to Ireland in the Madrid opener
# EFF leader Julius Malema has thanked South Africans who voted for the party. The party is currently fourth behind the MK Party nationally as the IEC is almost complete in processing and validating voting district results. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research predicts the red berets will walk away with 9.4-percent of the vote, from 10.8-percent in 2019, thus gaining fewer seats in the National Assembly. Malema says the EFF’s resolute commitment to continue fighting for economic freedom for black people remains unshaken.
The ANC meanwhile remains in the lead nationally as the Electoral Commission is nearly complete with processing the voting district results. Preliminary results show the ANC at 40.11-percent followed by the DA at 21.72-percent and the MK Party at 14.84-percent. In the hotly contested KwaZulu-Natal, MK is leading with 45.34-percent followed by the IFP at 18.02-percent and the ANC third with 16.98-percent. In Gauteng, the ANC leads with 34.32-percent followed by the DA and the EFF. In the Western Cape, the DA is maintaining its majority with 55.33-percent followed by the ANC at 19.45-percent.
And the Western Cape premier Alan Winde says the provincial government remains committed to upholding and protecting the dignity of all citizens. The first sitting of the seventh administration of the provincial Parliament is scheduled for the 12th of this month. Winde says while they have been working flat out over the past several years on growing the economy to keep creating jobs and to make the region safer, they need to do more:
# Papua New Guinea’s prime minister, James Marape, has made available just over 958-million-rand for emergency response and initial recovery measures. This is after more than two-thousand people were buried alive landslide in the remote village of Yambali last week. The prime minister made his first visit to the site of the disaster yesterday and thanked international aid donors for their support. About one-thousand-250 people have been displaced by the landslide. Marape has vowed to do everything to support the residents of Yambali.
# And finally rugby: The Springbok Sevens will be looking to bounce back from their opening-day defeat against Ireland at the Madrid Sevens yesterday. The Irish, trailing 14-7 at the break overhauled the Blitzboks with a try two minutes into injury time to win 26-21. This is South Africa’s fourth defeat in the last five games against Ireland. Now the Springbok Sevens will need to beat New Zealand and Fiji today to progress from Pool B. Tomorrow, the two top teams from each of the pools will square off in the semifinals.
