Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA wants Parliament to oppose Ramaphosa’s urgent interdict legally
# SAFTU says the education struggle continues 50 years after the Soweto uprising
# And Donald Trump says the text of the US-Iran deal will be released soon
# ActionSA has urged National Assembly speaker, Thoko Didiza, and the Parliament’s Impeachment Committee chairperson, Makashule Gana, to legally oppose president Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent application to interdict the committee from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities. The president is seeking to halt the committee’s work until the court has reviewed Parliament’s Section 89 report. ActionSA says Ramaphosa’s claim of urgency is entirely self-created because if he genuinely believed that the independent panel report was unlawful or procedurally defective, he has had years to challenge it.
# The Afrika Mayibuye Movement and March and March are seeking a unified approach to South Africa’s immigration challenges. Following a bilateral meeting in Johannesburg yesterday, Afrika Mayibuye and the anti-illegal migration group agreed to work together on public awareness campaigns, policy proposals, and stakeholder engagement aimed at shaping a common immigration strategy. The movement’s secretary general, Lazola Ndamase, called for cooperation between the government, business, and civil society to find solutions to immigration challenges:
# The South African Federation of Trade Unions says the fight for quality and equal education remains unfinished, 50-years after the historic Soweto Uprising. Commemorating the 16 June 1976 protests against Bantu Education, SAFTU has honoured the students whose actions helped shape South Africa’s liberation struggle. While acknowledging improved access to education since democracy, the federation says deep inequalities persist across the sector. SAFTU argues that austerity measures have undermined efforts to address infrastructure backlogs and strengthen the country’s public education system.
# US president Donald Trump says the text of the memorandum of understanding with Iran will be released publicly. Washington and Tehran have agreed on a peace framework for a deal to bring the war to an end, halt the American blockade of Iran, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This comes ahead of a formal signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. Trump, who is in France for the G7 summit, has described the deal as powerful:
# Soccer: Although Uruguay dominated for most of the game, they had to settle for a one-all draw against Saudi Arabia in the sweltering heat of Miami on Monday night. The surprise result has now left an intriguing Group H wide open. The stalemate came hours after one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history when European champions Spain were held 0-0 by debutants Cape Verde in the same group. After the first round of games in the pool, all four teams have one point. Uruguay won the World Cup in 1930 and 1950.
# And to conclude: President Cyril Ramaphosa says global jazz icon Abdullah Ibrahim’s profound creations honoured the South Africa that shaped his political commitment and musical brilliance. The 91-year-old composer and cultural activist passed away in Germany following a short illness. In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver, in recognition of his excellent contribution to the arts. Ramaphosa spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says Ibrahim enriched people’s lives with his musical gifts:
