# ActionSA says Ramaphosa’s address on illegal immigration was weak
# Malawi joins Ghana in offering voluntary repatriation to its citizens
# And, Israel launches retaliatory strikes on Iran
# ActionSA says president Cyril Ramaphosa’s address does nothing to tackle the immigration crisis, which it claims was created by the ANC and perpetuated by the government of national unity. The president addressed the nation on Sunday on the government’s management approach to illegal migration and the recent surge in protests against foreign nationals. ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says Ramaphosa offered a scripted repetition of the same failed policies that have done nothing to address the crisis:
Meanwhile, Malawi’s Foreign Affairs ministry has confirmed that 150 of its citizens left South Africa by bus over the weekend as part of a voluntary repatriation programme. The group had been staying in temporary camps in Mossel Bay, in the Western Cape, after being displaced in violent anti-foreigner protests in the area last weekend. They are expected to arrive in Malawi later today. A second group of Ghanaian nationals who voluntarily accepted their government’s repatriation offer also left the country over the weekend.
# The Gauteng Health Department will today begin the phased rollout of Lenacapavir, a groundbreaking twice-yearly HIV prevention injection. This forms part of the national government’s nationwide initiative to expand HIV prevention options and boost the country’s efforts to reduce new HIV infections to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. South Africa received its first batch of Lenacapavir, comprising 37-thousand-920 doses, in April. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says Lenacapavir will be introduced at 133 facilities across the province:
# The Israeli Defence Force launched retaliatory strikes on military targets in western and central Iran this morning. This comes after Tehran launched missiles at Israel in apparent retaliation over attacks on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, a stronghold of the Iran-allied Hezbollah militant group. Israel’s latest attack comes after US president Donald Trump urged prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to hold off on retaliating against Iran. Tehran has long stated that any peace deal with the US will depend on a ceasefire also holding in Lebanon.
# Golf: American J.T. Poston defeated compatriot Ryan Gerard in a playoff to win the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, the biggest victory of his career. He won on the second play-off hole after Gerard missed a crucial putt. Another American, Wyndham Clark, finished one shot behind Poston and Gerard in solo third. Poston, who has secured a spot at next month’s Open Championship, admitted he didn’t feel great about his golf through the first 13 holes of Sunday’s final round:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-53-cents and the euro at 19-rand-6-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-6-cents, and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-899-dollars.
