# National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams has accused police of intimidation and unlawful conduct following a raid at his former home in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. Adams claims officers, wearing balaclavas and no identification, targeted the wrong address and failed to produce a warrant. He alleges occupants were threatened, with a child reportedly assaulted. Adams says he is willing to cooperate with authorities but questioned the legality of the operation:
# Police in Vosloorus have confirmed that 27-year-old spaza shop owner, Mazwi Kubheka, reported missing a month ago, has been found safe. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says Kubheka presented himself at the Vosloorus police station yesterday evening. He will be reunited with his family after a medical assessment. Police say circumstances around his disappearance remain unclear and investigations continue. She reminded citizens to report missing persons immediately:
# The Pentagon announced the United States will be withdrawing five-thousand troops from its NATO ally Germany, as a rift over the Iran war widens between President Donald Trump and Europe. Trump had threatened a drawdown in forces earlier this week after sparring with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who said the Iranians were humiliating the U.S. in talks to end the two-month-old war and that he did not see what exit strategy Washington was pursuing. Germany is home to some 35-thousand active-duty U.S. military personnel, more than anywhere else in Europe.
# Soccer: Durban City FC have been crowned 2026 Nedbank Cup champions with seven-million-rand prize money after a 2-1 comeback victory over TS Galaxy at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo. Mfanafuthi Mkhize equalised in the second-half before Jean Lwamba netted the winner, redeeming an earlier own goal. This marks the club’s first major trophy and ends KwaZulu-Natal’s 17-year drought. Interim coach Pitso Dladla hailed the team for the hard work:
# Tennis: In a historic women’s final Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk captured her maiden WTA 1000 title by defeating Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva 7–5, 6–3 at the Madrid Open. Kostyuk, the 26th seed, displayed immense composure to overcome the 19-year-old in a match marked by clinical serving and aggressive baseline play. This victory marks Kostyuk’s third career title and her first at the elite 1000 level. In this afternoon’s men’s final world number one Jannik Sinner from Italy will take on Alexander Zverev from Germany.
# And finally, Sport, Arts and Culture minister Gayton McKenzie has urged South Africans to submit entries for the Mzansi to the World Cup Lucky Fan Competition before the 5pm deadline today. Twenty winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Mexico to watch Bafana Bafana’s 2026 World Cup opener. McKenzie stressed that a valid passport is mandatory, with winners expected to begin visa applications immediately after Tuesday’s announcement. Winners are reminded that a Mexican tourist visa, travel insurance, bank statements for visa purposes, and personal spending money remain the winner’s own responsibility.
