# President Ramaphosa says the Madlanga Commission’s recommendations will be implemented

# President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured South Africans that the recommendations of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be fully implemented. He established the commission to investigate criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system in July of last year. Last month, the president received the commission’s interim report, which won’t be made public. In his New Year’s message, Ramaphosa stated that the commission’s recommendations will help restore faith in the integrity of the police:
# The Border Management Authority, working with the South African National Defence Force, successfully intercepted over seven-thousand people attempting illegal crossings at various land borders since the 10th of December. The majority of those intercepted were Zimbabwean nationals illegally crossing through the Groblersbridge Border Post. BMA Commissioner, Mike Masiapato, told the SABC that Beitbridge, Lebombo, and Lesotho borders are among those with vulnerable sections:
# KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for four suspects who killed four family members in Mdweshule, Port Shepstone, on Wednesday evening. According to police spokesperson Paul Magwaza, the attack unfolded when armed suspects forced their way into a rondavel occupied by a woman and her fiancé. He says three of the men were carrying firearms, and the other one was carrying a bush knife:
# An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire that ripped through Amsterdam’s historic Vondelkerk in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The fire caused parts of the tower and roof to collapse, forcing evacuations and cutting electricity to roughly 90 nearby homes. According to reports, it is suspected that the structure was likely hit by fireworks. The 1872 church is a major tourist attraction and overlooks Amsterdam’s famous Vondelpark.
# Cricket: The first tie in the SA20’s history set up a thrilling Super Over at the Wanderers, where the Joburg Super Kings defeated the Durban Super Giants in front of a capacity New Year’s Day crowd. Francois Du Plessis top-scored with 47 as the hosts posted 205 for four in their 20 overs. In reply, the visitors scored 205 for eight. Batting first in the Super Over, the Durban Super Giants could only score five runs, while Rilee Rossouw hit two boundaries in three balls to see the Joburg Super Kings over the line.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-52-cents and the euro at 19-rand-43-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-28-cents and Bitcoin trades at 88-thousand-722-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-374-dollars-76-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-8-cents a barrel.
