BULLETIN 20 November 9 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Oxfam says the G20 leaders must support the initiative of tackling global inequality
# The GOOD Party says South Africa must take firmer action against the migration of Palestinians
# And the DA says schools have become danger zones
# Global campaign group Oxfam is calling on countries attending the G20 Leaders’ Summit to support initiatives by South Africa to address massive global wealth inequality and the debt undermining developing countries. New analysis shows that between 2000 and 2024, the world’s top one-percent captured 41-percent of all new wealth, while just one-percent went to the bottom 50-percent. Oxfam says it supports South Africa’s recommendation for the establishment of a new International Panel on Inequality. It says this will be a tremendous step in addressing the inequality emergency.
# The GOOD Party says it is wholly inappropriate for South Africa to criticise those who facilitated the unexpected arrival of the 153 Palestinians in the country last week. Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, says the flight carrying the refugees was part of a clear agenda to cleanse the Palestinians out of Gaza and the West Bank. GOOD’s secretary-general, Brett Herron, says the Israeli government concocted an ingeniously immoral plan to entice people to pay for their own forced relocation:
# The DA in Gauteng is calling on Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, to urgently present a credible plan to secure all schools across the province. This comes after the principal and a staff member at Inxiweni Primary School in Tembisa were shot dead inside the school premises on Tuesday. The DA’s Sergio Isa Dos Santos says these senseless killings validate their long-standing concerns and reinforce the view that schools have become dangerous zones:
# Two Miss Universe judges have resigned ahead of Friday’s annual beauty pageant in Thailand. Lebanese-French musician Omar Harfouch, who announced his resignation on Instagram, alleged an impromptu jury had pre-selected finalists ahead of the competition. Hours later, French soccer manager Claude Makélélé also announced he’d pulled out, citing unforeseen personal reasons. The resignations come two weeks after several contestants walked out of a pre-pageant event over controversial comments made by an official from the host nation. The Miss Universe Organisation has denied Harfouch’s claims.
# Soccer: Moroccan internationals Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak were named the men’s and women’s African Footballer of the Year, respectively, at the CAF Awards in Rabat. Defender Hakimi had a stellar season, securing five trophies with Paris Saint-Germain, including the club’s inaugural Champions League crown. Chebbak is the first Moroccan woman to win the top prize. Pedro Leitao Brito won Coach of the Year after helping Cape Verde qualify for their first-ever World Cup. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was full of praise for Hakimi:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-20-cents and the euro at 19-rand-81-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-45-cents and Bitcoin trades at 92-thousand-289-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-78-dollars-19-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-22-cents a barrel.
