In this bulletin:
# The SACP says it rejects Trump’s racist propaganda about South Africa
# Thabo Bester continues to fight for his prison conditions to be relaxed
# And five family members die in a shack fire in Ekurhuleni
# The South African Communist Party says it condemns and totally rejects US president Donald Trump’s latest rant of blatant false information and racist propaganda against South Africa. In a post on Truth Social, Trump again claimed Afrikaners are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and farms are being illegally confiscated. SACP Alex Mashilo says Trump has also arrogantly displayed his racist attitude by turning a blind eye to the plight of the landless black majority in South Africa:
# In his latest application in the Johannesburg High Court, convicted murderer and rapist, Thabo Bester, is seeking to compel the Department of Justice and Correctional Services to relax his prison conditions. Bester argues that his current solitary confinement at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre is unconstitutional and violates his right to a fair trial. He wants his prison conditions to be relaxed in order to have contact visits from family members and his lawyers. Bester is set to return to court on December 5th together with his co-accused.
# A shack fire has claimed the lives of five family members, while one teenager escaped with no injuries in Steve Biko Informal Settlement, Etwatwa, in Ekurhuleni on Sunday midnight. Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, says when they arrived on the scene, they found a five-roomed shack engulfed by flames with entrapment on their arrival. He says father, mother, and three children were declared dead on scene by paramedics:
# US senators are voting on a deal that could pave the way to ending the longest government shutdown in history. The vote comes after a group of about eight Senate Democrats reached a deal with Senate Republican leaders and the White House to reopen the government. This is in exchange for a future vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care subsidies. This vote is procedural; as if approved, it would still have to go to the House for passage before heading to president Donald Trump’s desk for his signature.
# Tennis: Top seed Carlos Alcaraz got his quest for a first ATP Finals title and the year-ending world number one ranking off to the perfect start in Turin, Italy. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated Australian Alex de Minaur, 7-6, 6-2, in his opening Jimmy Connors Group match. In the Bjorn Borg Group, two-time winner Germany’s Alexander Zverev also got off to a winning start, beating American debutant Ben Shelton, 6-3, 7-6. Alcaraz says he is motivated to win this tournament:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-27-cents and the euro at 19-rand-96-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-870-dollars.
