In this bulletin:
# The Basic Education minister urges a review of the BELA Bill
# Nikki Haley formally endorses Donald Trump
# And rugby, four Junior Bok players are ruled out for their clash against Wales
# Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube says her Ministry will petition president Cyril Ramaphosa to return the BELA Bill to parliament for review. This comes as various political parties including the DA rejected the Bill. As a DA member, Gwarube emphasised that the bill should be revised to avoid hindering learners’ futures with outdated legislation. She told the SABC there are necessary changes to be debated:
# Former high court judge Nkola Motata has approached the Constitutional Court to challenge his removal as a judge. The Judicial Service Commission found him guilty of gross misconduct after a drunk-driving conviction in 2009. The 77-year-old was impeached by the National Assembly in February this year, with president Cyril Ramaphosa officially removing him in March. Motata wants the National Assembly resolution, which called for his removal as a judge, and Ramaphosa’s decision declared invalid and set aside. He argues that the National Assembly lacked the jurisdiction to remove him.
# The DA in Ekurhuleni has expressed concern about the delay in the appointment of the Group Chief Financial Officer. Currently, the metro is being audited by the Auditor General, and without a GCFO in office. The DA’s, Fana Nkosi, says this raises concerns over the metro’s ability to provide financial reports in an accountable, effective, and transparent manner:
# Former US president Donald Trump’s Republican primaries rival Nikki Haley has formally endorsed him. In March when Haley dropped out of the primary race against Trump, she declined to endorse him. However, in May, she said she would vote for him, despite her intense criticism of him throughout the campaign. Speaking at the party’s convention in Milwaukee, Haley says it must be acknowledged that there are Americans who don’t always agree with Trump:
# Rugby: The Junior Springboks have called up outside back Wandile Mlaba to replace the injured Likhona Finca for the World Rugby Under-20 Championship seventh-place playoff against Wales in Cape Town on Friday. Three more players have also been ruled out of selection for the clash. Tiaan Jacobs and Michail Damon have ankle and groin injuries respectively, while Thabang Mahashe has a concussion. Coach Bafana Nhleko will announce the team to take on Wales this afternoon.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-4-cents and the euro at 19-rand-68-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-41-cents and Bitcoin trades at 65-thousand-720-dollars-21-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-469-dollars-72-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-59-cents a barrel.
