# The SACP says president Cyril Ramaphosa needs to move swiftly to appoint the deputy president, ministers, and deputy ministers. The SACP’s spokesperson, Alex Mashilo says the DA has positioned itself against the government of national unity, which the ANC seeks to form. This is obvious from the DA’s manoeuvres to secure a hostile takeover through a grand coalition with the ANC, also involving the IFP, in which the DA will wield veto power under the guise of sufficient consensus:
# ActionSA will today observe International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking in Johannesburg’s CBD. The party including activist Curt Van Heerden and recovered substance user Kester Fisher, will visit areas heavily impacted by substance abuse to raise awareness and provide support to those affected by addiction. ActionSA’s Dereleen James advocates for enforcement of the party’s national drug masterplan, to combat drug misuse:
# The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed the death of 92-year-old, Daniel Madumo. The department’s spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo says Madumo was charged together with the late Jeremia Mmatli for a case of murder at an old age home in Brits. They were both admitted on 3 June at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria. Nxumalo says Madumo had to be transferred to an outside hospital on Friday due to health complications and sadly passed away on Sunday. Mmatli died on Thursday.
# South African doctor Lauren Dickason will spend 18 years in a psychiatric facility in New Zealand for the murder of her three children. Dickason was accused of murder after strangling and smothering Liané, 6, and 2-year-old twins Maya and Karla on 16 September 2021 while her husband was out for dinner with colleagues. She pleaded not guilty to the charges but was found guilty by a jury on 16 August last year. On Wednesday, the High Court in Christchurch, New Zealand, ruled that she would serve her sentence at a mental health unit in Hillmorton Hospital.
# Soccer: Real Madrid defender and captain Nacho is leaving after a 23-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 34-year-old Spain international has won six Champions League titles with Madrid since joining their youth academy in 2001, as well as four LaLiga crowns, and two Copa del Reys. The Spanish club in a statement expressed its gratitude and affection to Nacho and called him one of the great legends of the club. Nacho has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-22-cents and the euro at 19-rand-51-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-12-cents and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-706-dollars-14-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-316-dollars-84-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-59-cents a barrel.
