# The Electoral Commission says following the national and provincial elections, 43.5-percent of the elected representatives are women. This marks a significant step towards gender equality in political representation, forming the seventh democratic Parliament. Delivering the final list of elected representatives to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya says the list’s diversity with 174 women and 226 men, reflects a broad range of experiences and perspectives in politics:
RISE Mzansi has also handed over the names of representatives for the National Assembly and Provincial Legislatures to Chief Justice Raymond Zondo. National spokesperson Gugu Ndima says two leaders will join the |National Assembly and one leader in the Gauteng provincial legislature. Ndima says the party aims to bring seriousness, optimism, and solutions to legislative houses. She confirmed the party will host the Citizens’ Assemblies:
# The Special Investigating Unit has welcomed a Constitutional Court judgment dismissing an application to appeal a High Court order bid by engineering company Mphaphuli Consulting. In 2022, the Polokwane High Court dismissed the company’s application to review and set aside an investigation report by the SIU relating to the electrification of villages in Limpopo. SIU’s spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, says the ruling paves the way for it to institute a civil claim to recover 76-million-rand from the engineering company:
# President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated India prime minister Narendra Modi on his re-election, commending him for his dedication and commitment to the people of India. Modi found himself unexpectedly reliant on smaller parties to reach a parliamentary majority after his Bharatiya Janata Party fell short of the 272 needed to form the next government. Ramaphosa has affirmed that South Africa looks forward to continue working with India on matters of importance to the people of both countries.
# Soccer: English Premier League clubs have voted in favour of continuing to use the Video Assistant Referee or VAR system next season. The BBC reported that 19 of the division’s 20 clubs had voted to retain the controversial technology. The BBC said only Wolves, who last month called the vote to scrap the system, had backed the abolition of VAR. The Midlands club had accused VAR of undermining the value of the Premier League brand after another season of several debatable decisions.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-92-cents and the euro at 20-rand-62-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-21-cents and Bitcoin trades at 71-thousand-121-dollars-20-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-381-dollars-66-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars a barrel.
