# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says party members must remember they are fighting a battle to ensure the party succeeds in the elections. Mbalula was speaking during the funeral of Keletileng Kelly Mathatha in Soshanguve, Gauteng, yesterday. Mathatha worked in the office of the secretary-general. Mbalula says ANC members who remain in this world are left with the difficult task of renewal:
# The Road Traffic Management Corporation is calling for greater cooperation from motorists to reduce the number of children injured or killed on the roads. Spokesperson Simon Zwane says according to the African Brain Child initiative’s report, 96 out of every 100 children under 14 who are admitted to ICU after a crash have moderate or severe head injuries because they were not wearing a seat belt:
Botswana’s Foreign Affairs minister Lemogang Kwape, meanwhile, says his government is cooperating with South African authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the remains of the victims of the Limpopo bus crash. Forty-five people from Botswana died after the bus plunged off a bridge and burst into flames on the R518 near Mokopane on Thursday. They were travelling to Moria for an Easter gathering. The sole survivor, an eight-year-old girl, is recovering in hospital.
# Rugby: The Springbok Women’s head coach Louis Koen says the team made significant progress on their European tour that ended with defeat to the USA in London yesterday. Koen adds they need to eliminate soft moments in high intensity situations. The women suffered a disappointing 38-17 defeat to the USA, who scored a few easy tries in the match. The tour did yield a win over Spain last weekend. The Bok Women’s next assignment is the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Madagascar in May.
# And finally: President Cyril Ramaphosa has joined thousands of congregants attending the annual Easter Pilgrimage at the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church’s headquarters in Moria, Limpopo, today. On Good Friday, Ramaphosa was at the Eagle Christian Church in Bloemfontein. He called on churches to pray for South Africa to have peaceful elections. The president says he is not campaigning as he visits churches during this Easter weekend:
