# President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver a keynote address at the national Human Rights Day commemoration in Sharpeville, Gauteng. The event, themed ‘Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights,’ coincides with the 30th anniversary of freedom and democracy. According to the Presidency, the hosting of the event in Sharpeville symbolises the government’s commitment to honour the sacrifices made by those who fought and died for South Africa’s liberation in Sharpeville in 1960. Ramaphosa will commence the event with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Sharpeville Memorial Site.
# The South African Federation of Trade Unions has praised the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises for unanimously recommending an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit into the South African Airways / Takatso Consortium deal. Saftu spokesperson Trevor Shaku expressed concerns over Public Enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan’s lack of transparency regarding the deal. Shaku says Saftu is insisting on accountability for the sale of SAA to Takatso Consortium:
# A Christian-based political party Hope4SA, pledges to prioritise Godly principles in governance, advocating for unity, love, and respect for all. They aim to protect inalienable rights and promote a Godly-aligned constitution. The party emerged from the Time2Rise movement, envisioning holistic change in South Africa’s economic, social, and administrative spheres. With a focus on servant leadership and accountability, the party’s Secretary Dianne Rogers says they seek to bring about systematic change and a holistic approach to problem-solving, involving various sectors of society:
# The CEO of a British hospital promised to take all appropriate steps following allegations of a data breach involving the Princess of Wales. Al Russell reacted to claims staff at the London Clinic tried to gain access to Catherine’s medical records after she underwent abdominal surgery. He says everyone is acutely aware of their duties with regard to patient confidentiality. The royal’s absence from public life since the operation has led to various conspiracy theories, including she and Prince William were separating after he cheated on her.
# Rugby: Eastern Cape Springbok fans get the opportunity to meet their heroes in Nelson Mandela Bay this weekend. Some members of the World Cup-winning squad will visit the city on Saturday in a resumption of their trophy tour that started shortly after they won the Webb Ellis Cup. SA Rugby president Mark Alexander says they promised to visit other areas as well. On Sunday evening, the first episode of the documentary series on the Boks’ victorious World Cup campaign, Chasing the Sun Two, will air on DStv.
