# The ANC’s alleged candidate list for Parliament has been leaked, and News24 reports, some controversial figures have made it onto the list. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s former political advisor Bejani Chauke, member of Parliament Xiaomei Havard, and former high-ranking minister Dina Pule are among the people who made it onto the ANC’s alleged parliamentary list that was leaked late last night. Ministers implicated in state capture corruption in the Zondo Report, including ANC national chair Gwede Mantashe, State Security Agency minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and David Mahlobo are included. Zizi Kodwa, Malusi Gigaba, Faith Muthambi and Dipuo Peters also feature.
# Police minister Bheki Cele and Zululand’s business community met to address issues impacting economic growth and community welfare. Emphasising businesses’ role in fostering opportunities, they stressed the need for measures to address crime and ensure stability. Cele highlighted efforts to combat criminal syndicates, affirming a commitment to safeguarding communities for economic growth:
# A police officer will remain in custody for the premeditated murder of her husband as the prosecution classifies the incident as a serious case of gender-based violence. Kate Lindiwe Hlongwane was denied bail by the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court for allegedly shooting her husband, Russel Hlongwane, during a domestic dispute in Soshanguve on 28 January. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says despite Hlongwane’s claim of an accidental discharge during a struggle, the court deemed her unfit for bail:
# The US embassy in Russia has warned that “extremists” have imminent plans for an attack in Moscow, hours after Russian security services said they had foiled a planned shooting at a synagogue by a cell from the Afghan arm of Islamic State. Reuters reports the embassy, which has repeatedly urged all US citizens to leave Russia immediately, gave no further details about the nature of the threat, but said people should avoid concerts and crowds and be aware of their surroundings. The embassy advises US citizens on its website to avoid large gatherings over the next 48-hours.
# And, motorsport: Ferrari’s 18-year-old reserve driver, Oliver Bearman, was thrown into the deep end after Carlos Sainz had to withdraw from the weekend’s Formula One race in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with appendicitis. The Scuderia announced Sainz must undergo an operation. He reportedly felt unwell for several days, but, nonetheless participated in yesterday’s free practice. Sainz ended third in last weekend’s first race of the season in Bahrain. Bearman came sixth in the F2 championship for Prema Racing last year.
