# The EFF wants the Mpumalanga Police Commissioner to appear before the Madlanga Commission
# A Louisiana man kills eight children, including seven of his own
# And golf: France’s Agathe Laisne wins the Joburg Ladies Open
# The EFF has expressed concern at allegations made by suspended Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Daphney Manamela. She has accused National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola and former Police minister Bheki Cele of corruption, interference in investigations, and attempts to block her return to office. The EFF says it is particularly outraged by the revelations concerning the murder of the daughter of the party’s deputy president, Godrich Gardee. Manamela claims that the investigation into Hillary Gardee was deliberately compromised. The EFF says Manamela must appear before the Madlanga Commission.
# The South African Police Service has criticised the Sunday Times for publishing leaked affidavits linked to ongoing investigations into drug-related criminal networks in the country. The publication released an affidavit from a popular DJ who survived an attempted assassination centred around drug-dealing in the night-club scene. National Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says the publication or dissemination of leaked affidavits, especially those containing details of witnesses, informants, and evidence, poses a dangerous risk to the safety and lives of individuals who have come forward:
# Legal practitioner, doctor Robyn Conradie, is calling on government and the Health Department to urgently prioritise service delivery in the public health sector. The South African public health sector is experiencing a severe financial crisis, frequently described as a fiscal cliff, driven by chronic underfunding, significant debt, and shrinking donor support. Conradie told Newzroom Afrika that corruption and mismanagement are collapsing South Africa’s public health sector:
# A man shot and killed eight children, seven of them his own, and wounded two adults in Shreveport, Louisiana. The children are aged from one to 14-years-old. Authorities described the shootings, which happened in three separate homes, as domestic in nature. This marks the country’s deadliest mass shooting since January 2024. Shreveport Police’s Chris Bordelon says the gunman, identified as Shamar Elkins, was killed by police in a shootout:
# Golf: France’s Agathe Laisne won a dramatic five-hole playoff against Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley to win the Joburg Ladies Open at the Randpark Golf Club. After the duo were locked at 19-under par with South Africa’s Casandra Alexander following 72 holes, it was back to the 18th for sudden-death action. Alexander, the home favourite, was knocked out on the first playoff hole. Laisne won with a birdie on the final playoff hole to claim her second Ladies European Tour title this season.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-38-cents and the euro at 19-rand-26-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-12-cents, and Bitcoin trades at 74-thousand-528-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-792-dollars-58-cents a fine ounce, and Brent crude oil is quoted at 91-dollars-39-cents a barrel.
