In this bulletin:
# President Ramaphosa says men and boys must get involved in the fight against gender-based violence
# The chief justice says the Constitutional Court delivered only 13-percent of its judgments on time
# And Zelensky says security decisions about Ukraine must include Ukraine
# President Cyril Ramaphosa says no society can thrive for as long as gender-based violence and femicide continue, and the agency of women is denied. Tuesday marked the beginning of the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign. This year’s theme is Letsema: Men, Women, Boys, and Girls working together to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says the fight against GBVF cannot afford to leave men and boys behind:
# Chief Justice Mandisa Maya says that in the last financial year, only 73-percent of criminal cases were finalised, just under the 75-percent target. She presented the annual judiciary reports for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 financial years. Only six of the country’s 26 superior courts met the target of delivering 70-percent of reserved judgments within three months in 2024/2025. The Constitutional Court was the worst-performing, with only 13 per cent of its reserved judgments delivered. Maya has attributed this to the high-profile and complex nature of matters before the court.
# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi says preliminary projections show that the G20 Leaders’ Summit injected between one-billion-rand and three-billion-rand into the province’s economy. The summit held in Africa for the time has been hailed a success. Police arrested 13 people directly linked to G20-related offences, including two Operation Dudula members detained for trespassing at the Nasrec Expo Centre. Lesufi says beyond economic gains, the summit taught the government key lessons on agile governance, intergovernmental co-ordination, technology use, and partnership building:
# Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has urged international partners to maintain their security support, after European leaders presented a counterproposal to the 28-point US peace plan. He addressed a meeting of the Leaders of the Coalition of the Willing, co-chaired by the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany, virtually on Tuesday. The issue of security guarantees is only one of the areas on which Moscow and Kyiv are at odds. Zelensky says security decisions about Ukraine must include Ukraine:
# Golf: Rising South African star Christo Lamprecht has received a personal invitation from Gary Player to compete in the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City from 4 to 7 December. In his invitation to Lamprecht, Player wrote it had been an absolute delight to watch his progress this year and how hard he had worked to earn a place on the PGA Tour. Player added that he is looking forward to seeing Lamprecht at Sun City as he makes his debut in ‘Africa’s Major’ in front of his home fans.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-17-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-64-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-725-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-164-dollars-15-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars a barrel.
