Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA expects the Medium-Term Budget to reflect victories
# BOSA wants access to the public service misconduct register
# And a car explosion kills at least eight people in New Delhi
# The DA says the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement cannot be filled with spending surges, revenue shortfalls, and tax hikes. Finance minister Enoch Godongwana will deliver the mid-term budget in Parliament tomorrow. The budget statement establishes the government’s economic policy framework, updates economic forecasts, adjusts departmental budgets, and authorises emergency spending. The DA’s Mark Burke says they expect the budget to reflect and reinforce hard-earned victories:
# Build One South Africa yesterday submitted a Promotion of Access to Information Act application to obtain the government’s central register of public service misconduct. The party says the register, which records officials found guilty of wrongdoing and dismissed, remains hidden from the public despite regulations being published earlier this year. BOSA spokesperson Roger Solomons argues that secrecy protects corrupt officials and undermines efforts to build an ethical state.
# ActionSA’s mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Xolani Khumalo, says his years as a community activist have taught him the realities of combating crime on the ground. He was officially sworn in as a councillor in the metro on Monday, a move the party says will give him much-needed governance experience ahead of the local government elections. Khumalo, who is known as the host of the anti-drug television show Sizok’thola, says he is not in the business of winning the hearts of criminals:
# At least eight people died when a massive explosion occurred close to the Red Fort, one of India’s capital, New Delhi’s most visited historic sites. About 20 people were injured in the blast. A slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light before it exploded. Airports, railway stations, government buildings, and heritage sites nationwide have been put on high alert. Indian Home minister Amit Shah says they are exploring all possibilities, and the National Investigation Agency, the federal agency for terror investigations, is conducting an investigation.
# Tennis: Italian second seed Jannik Sinner began his ATP Finals title defence with a victory in Turin. The 24-year-old defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, 7-5, 6-1, keeping alive his chances of pipping Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz for the year-end world number one ranking. American Taylor Fritz beat late qualifier Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, who is making his debut at the event, 6-3, 6-4. Sinner says it’s always special to play in front of his home crowd:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-14-cents and the euro at 19-rand-82-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-58-cents and Bitcoin trades at 106-thousand-794-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-144-dollars-30-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-84-cents a barrel.
