# The Police deputy minister, Paulina Boshielo, will appear before the Parliament’s ad hoc committee today
# The IFP says the coalition government in KwaZulu-Natal remains stable
# And Trump has officially endorsed Andrew Cuomo for New York mayor
# Parliament’s ad hoc committee will resume today with a new witness, deputy minister of Police, Paulina Shela Boshielo. She is expected to shed light on the functioning of the political killings task team. Last week, the other deputy Police minister Cassel Mathale, told the committee that more than a year into the position, he has never been assigned a line of responsibility. Boshielo’s testimony will be followed by acting Police minister Firoz Cachalia on Wednesday, with Investigating Directorate Against Corruption boss Andrea Johnson to testify on Thursday and Friday.
# The DA has expressed deep concern over the sudden resignation of National Student Financial Aid Scheme Board Chairperson Karen Stander, citing threats, bullying, and racism. The party’s Delmaine Christians calls for Minister Buti Manamela to appear before Parliament to address these allegations and outline steps to restore governance and trust. Christians says the DA vows to maintain strict oversight to ensure NSFAS stability and protect student funding:
# The IFP has reaffirmed its full support and confidence in the KwaZulu-Natal government of provincial unity under the leadership of premier Thami Ntuli. This follows reports of tensions between the party and the ANC, both of which are in the provincial coalition government alongside the DA and the NFP. The NFP recently revealed that it’s withdrawing its support for the GPU. The IFP says there is no crisis, adding that it will continuously engage constructively with all GPU partners to ensure the long-term viability of the coalition government.
# US president Donald Trump has urged New Yorkers to vote for former governor Andrew Cuomo for mayor in today’s election, saying the city would have zero chance of success or even survival under Zohran Mamdani’s leadership. Opinion polls indicate Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, is ahead of Cuomo, who is running as an Independent after Mamdani bested him in the Democratic primary. The Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa, trails behind. In response, Mamdani says he is not surprised that Trump has endorsed Cuomo:
# Soccer: South Africa got their FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup off to a winning start, recording a 3-1 victory over Bolivia in Doha, Qatar. Goals from Emile Witbooi, Neo Bohloko, and substitute Shaun Els ensured Amajimbos registered their first-ever win in only their second appearance in a World Cup since 2015. The victory also saw coach Vela Khumalo’s charges make history, becoming the first South African national team to win their opening match at a World Cup. Amajimbos will next face hosts Qatar on Thursday.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-33-cents and the euro at 19-rand-96-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-75-cents and Bitcoin trades at 106-thousand-908-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-988-dollars-68-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-54-cents a barrel.
