# The MK Party leader and former president Jacob Zuma says the party need to educate people that there’s no government of national unity in the country but an unholy marriage between DA and ANC. Zuma was speaking during the party pivotal media conference in Johannesburg regarding the current political situation and ongoing developments in South Africa. He says the government of national unity is madness:
# The Investigating Directorate has dismissed a report by Sunday World that the arrest of ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe is imminent. The publication said Mantashe’s imminent arrest was linked to security upgrades at his properties in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape from Bosasa. However, ID spokesperson Henry Mamothame says they have not decided nor discussed the matter:
# The EFF says many young people are grappling with a severe mental health crisis. Spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys says only one in ten South African children with diagnosable and treatable mental health issues have access to any form of mental healthcare. According to the EFF, in Gauteng alone, 40 alleged learner suicide-related deaths were reported last year. Mathys adds these are not signs of a thriving environment for the youth, but of neglect by the government and disdain for the African child.
# With less than two weeks until the first American presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle, CNN has released additional details on the parameters agreed upon by the Trump and Biden campaigns. The 90-minute debate on 27 June marks the first in-person showdown of the campaign between president Joe Biden and his predecessor, former president Donald Trump. There will be no studio audience, and no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on stage. Microphones will be muted throughout the debate, except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak.
# And, dricket: The Proteas women’s top-order crumbled as South Africa slumped to a 143-run loss against India in the opening ODI at Bengaluru yesterday. Chasing 266 runs to win, the Proteas were never on top of the run chase, losing opener and captain Laura Wolvaardt in the first over for a duck. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals with no substantial partnership or innings. However, the day belonged to Smriti Mandhana, whose century propelled India to 265 for 8. The second match in three-match ODI series is on Wednesday.
