# DA leader John Steenhuisen says the party’s Federal Executive has unanimously adopted a resolution to initiate exploratory talks with other political parties. The ANC has lost its outright majority paving the way for a coalition government, not just nationally, but also in some provinces. Steenhuisen says a coalition negotiations team consisting of Helen Zille, Ivan Meyer, Siviwe Gwarube, Alan Winde, Tony Leon, and Ryan Coetzee, will facilitate engagements with other parties:
Meanwhile, ActionSA says it notes DA leader John Steenhuisen’s announcement, which confirms plans to negotiate a potential coalition with the ANC. ActionSA national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, says the party may well have to ready itself to be the unofficial opposition in Parliament:
# Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says the government has deployed a disaster management team to the Eastern Cape to help with relief and rescue efforts. This comes as heavy rains have battered parts of the province over the weekend, leaving seven dead in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. More than one-thousand people have been displaced. Ntshavheni says the South African National Defence Force has also deployed a helicopter to help assess and access inaccessible areas:
# Two people were killed in two attacks at polling stations in the state of Puebla yesterday, amid Mexico’s historic election. Polls have closed in an election that is almost certain to see the country’s first female president elected. The two leading presidential candidates are Claudia Sheinbaum from the leftist Morena party and Xochitl Gálvez, from the conservative PAN party, who is representing a coalition of opposition parties.
