# South Africa is not invited to the first G20 Sherpas meeting of the US Presidency
# The Parliament is concerned about threats and intimidation against MPs
# And rugby: The draw for the 2027 World Cup takes place in Sydney this morning
# The United States has not invited South Africa to the first meeting of G20 Sherpas in Washington later this month. This comes as president Donald Trump has threatened to tear up South Africa’s membership of the G20. He has continued to claim that a genocide against Afrikaners is taking place in South Africa, and the government is randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them. Government has consistently rejected such claims as widely discredited and lacking reliable evidence. The US took over the G20 Presidency from South Africa on Monday.
# Parliament has expressed concern about the growing threats and intimidation directed at members of Parliament. The latest complaints surfaced during the work of the Ad Hoc Committee, but similar incidents have been reported by members of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and other committees. Parliament spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo, says they trust that the South African Police Service will investigate and address these cases expeditiously:
# Public Service and Administration minister, Mzamo Buthelezi, has vowed that all corrupt activities will be confronted, dismantled, and uprooted from all spheres of government. During a media briefing on Tuesday, he outlined key reforms to strengthen integrity, accountability, and ethical governance across the public service. This is ahead of International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9. Buthelezi says corruption is a threat to economic competitiveness, a social destabiliser, and a direct assault on the developmental aspirations of citizens:
The DA says it has been proven right after the 81-million-rand landfill contract in Matlosana in North West was terminated due to non-performance. The contract, awarded to 20 Elevation Construction, faced multiple red flags, including a lack of equipment, tax non-compliance, and being under business rescue. The DA’s Johannes le Grange calls for a full investigation and accountability for misused public funds:
# Irish prime minister, Micheál Martin, says one of the most important guarantees of Ukraine’s future security is its membership of the European Union. Kyiv is seeking to join the EU by 2030. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky visited Dublin on Tuesday for his first official visit to Ireland. Martin says his country is contributing further funding for non-lethal military assistance to Kyiv. He says they are making this contribution to help ensure that Russian president Vladimir Putin does not win:
# Rugby: The draw for 2027’s World Cup in Australia takes place in Sydney today. Top-ranked South Africa and 23 other teams will be seeded from one to 24 based on their world ranking, and placed in four bands of six teams. Each pool will have one team from each of the four bands. A star-studded line-up will conduct the draw. Former Wallabies captain James Slipper, All Blacks legend Dan Carter, former Australian sevens star Alicia Lucas, and World Rugby chairperson Brett Robinson are the presenters.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-9-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-60-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-897-dollars.
