BULLETIN 3 November 7 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The SACP says the ANC has failed on many occasions to reconfigure its alliance
# Fannie Masemola deploys a specialised team to hunt down Reiger Park killers
# And, five German climbers are killed in an avalanche in the Italian Alps
# The South African Communist Party general secretary, Solly Mapaila, says they are adamant in participating independently in the 2026 local government elections. The party, which has campaigned for the ANC since South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994, has become increasingly critical of its record in government. Speaking at the SACP’s annual Red October Rally in Klerksdorp, North West, on Sunday, Mapaila said the ANC has failed on many occasions to reconfigure the alliance:
# The Justice Department has begun a nationwide tracking campaign to locate beneficiaries of over 80-million-rand in unclaimed child maintenance funds. Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has called on parents to claim their money as the funds are often left uncollected. The department seeks to speed up payments directly into children’s bank accounts, reducing delays and easing the burden on struggling families.
# The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has extended the deadline for written submissions on the draft Cost Recovery Rules for Independent Transmission Projects to today. Originally set for 27 October, the extension follows stakeholder requests for more time. NERSA says the extension will allow comprehensive input to shape a regulatory framework that encourages private sector participation in electricity transmission. The regulator also aims to balance the interests of customers, licensees, and investors.
# National Police commissioner Fannie Masemola has deployed a specialised team of investigators to probe the fatal drive-by shooting in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni. The shooting claimed the lives of six people, while three others were injured on Saturday evening. Masemola, who visited the local police station on Sunday to receive an update on the situation and address the community, says they will not allow such incidents to continue:
# Five German climbers died after being caught in an avalanche in Italy’s Dolomite mountains. Two others escaped unharmed. According to authorities, the mountaineers, travelling in separate groups, were scaling Cima Vertana in the Ortler Alps when the fast-moving snow hit. The bodies of two men and a woman were recovered on Saturday, while the two other victims, a father and his 17-year-old daughter, were found on Sunday. The number of accidents in the Italian Alps has increased in recent years.
# Cricket: South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt says she is so proud of how the team performed in the Women’s ODI World Cup. Wolvaardt’s valiant 101 was in vain as the Proteas Women suffered a 52-run defeat to co-hosts India in the final in Mumbai. The Indian women triumphed at the third attempt after finishing runners-up in 2005 and 2017. Wolvaardt says it is unfortunate to be on the losing side, but she is confident that the team will grow strong from this experience:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-33-cents and the euro at 19-rand-98-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 109-thousand-725-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-998-dollars-4-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-70-cents a barrel.
