In this bulletin:
# Julius Malema says the EFF will not work with the DA and the FF Plus
# The ANC has selected its premier candidates for various provinces
# And rugby: Rassie Erasmus has named his candidates to captain the Boks against Wales
# EFF leader Julius Malema says they are not against a government of national unity, but they will not participate in a government that includes right-wing and reactionary political parties. He briefed the media yesterday evening on coalition talks. The EFF is the fourth biggest party in the country, securing 9.52-percent of the votes in the general election. Malema says they will not work with the DA and the FF Plus:
Malema also says they are of a firm conviction that the MK Party should be allowed to lead KwaZulu-Natal. Former president Jacob Zuma’s MK Party received 45-percent of the votes in the general elections. However, this is short of an outright majority, and is now scrambling to find a coalition partner. Malema says it has always been the practice that the party with the most votes form the government:
# The ANC has announced its premier candidates for several provinces following a rigorous selection process. The candidates, including Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane for the Eastern Cape, Phophi Ramathuba for Limpopo, and others for Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, North West, and Northern Cape, were chosen based on their ability to lead effectively and advance the ANC’s priorities for transformation and improving lives. The ANC expressed confidence that these candidates possess the necessary qualities of honesty, capability, and dedication to lead their respective provinces and contribute to the broader goals of the national democratic revolution.
# Western Cape premier Alan Winde announced the new cabinet of the provincial government. Anroux Marais is the new MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, replacing Reagan Allen, now deputy speaker of the legislature. Ricardo Mackenzie moves to Cultural Affairs and Sport, succeeded by Isaac Sileku as MEC for Mobility. Deidre Baartman is new the Finance MEC, and Mireille Wenger the MEC for Health and Wellness. The remaining portfolios are unchanged:
# Three countries at the G7 summit, the US, UK, and Canada, claim that Russian actors are carrying out a plot to influence the outcomes of Moldova’s presidential elections in October. In a statement, the countries claim that Moscow intends to incite protests in Moldova should a pro-Russia candidate not win. The countries are working with Moldovan authorities to sanction those behind the attempted interference. The US, UK, and Canada say they will not tolerate attempts to meddle and undermine democratic processes.
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says Pieter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etzebeth, and Bongi Mbonambi are the frontrunners to captain the team in the one-off Test against Wales at Twickenham next weekend. Captain Siya Kolisi is unavailable for the Test as it falls outside the official Test window, and his French club Racing 92 is not obligated to release him for international duty. Erasmus says a permanent decision on the captaincy would be taken ahead of the two-match Ireland series next month:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-41-cents and the euro at 19-rand-78-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-50-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-776-dollars-40-cents.
