In this bulletin:
# The MK party reaffirms its boycott of Parliament over alleged election rigging
# BOSA seeks clarity on the government of national unity agenda
# And, tennis: Carlos Alcaraz triumphs over Jannik Sinner
# The MK party is adamant about boycotting Parliament due to alleged election rigging by the Electoral Commission. Committed to proving vote theft, the party refuses to participate in Parliament until their legal challenges are resolved, maintaining their stance against what they view as manipulation by the IEC. Despite respecting the electorate’s will, the party believes its votes were not fully counted, impacting its representation. MK party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela vows to fight for electoral integrity and true voter representation.
Meanwhile, Build One South Africa is calling for transparency in coalition talks, urging chief justice Raymond Zondo to convene a meeting with leaders of all 18 parliamentary parties. Various opposition parties met to seek a clear agenda for any government of national unity. BOSA spokesperson Roger Solomons insists the focus must be on constitutionalism, the rule of law, justice, job creation, anti-corruption measures, education reform and crime eradication:
In another development Police minister Bheki Cele has attributed his rise from national commissioner to minister to hard work and dedication to serving South Africans. Speaking during the handover of 130 vehicles to the Criminal Record Centre Units at the SAPS Tshwane Academy, Cele reflected on his tenure after he failed to make the cut for the National Assembly. He says he is ready to spend time with his family:
# Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz overcame a bad start to beat Jannik Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and qualify for his maiden French Open final. The Spanish third seed could also take advantage when his Italian opponent suffered cramps. Australian Open champion Sinner, who will take over as world number one next week, lost the third match point. Alcaraz, who is hoping to add to his Wimbledon and US open titles, will face German Alexander Zverev or two-time runner-up Casper Ruud of Norway tomorrow.
# And, as the countdown to the Olympic Games passed the 50-day mark, Paris hoisted its rings on the Eiffel Tower. Workers assembled the prefabricated steel rings, and after dark on Thursday lifted the logo, weighing 30-tonnes and 29-metres long, into place. Pierre Engel, an engineer at ArcelorMittal, the steel company that manufactured the rings from recycled material, says tests and studies have been carried out for many months to ensure the success of the operation. The rings, each nine metres in diameter, will be illuminated every night.
