BULLETIN 6 October 6 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The GOOD Party, BOSA, and RISE Mzansi launch a new party
# The South African Medical Association suspends all ties with the Israeli Medical Association
# And motorsport: Russell wins in Singapore and McLaren clinches the constructors’ championship
# The GOOD Party, Build One South Africa, and RISE Mzansi have joined forces to create a new political party called Unite for Change. The party will be registered as a new political party with the Electoral Commission of South Africa to contest the upcoming 2026 local government elections. The three parties will still exist independently. GOOD Party leader Patricia de Lille says United for Change will have ethical leadership, improve job opportunities, and enhance service delivery:
Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi has meanwhile called for a complete reset of South Africa’s political leadership, one that prioritises vision, integrity, and generational renewal. Zibi says no single political party has all the qualities needed to turn the country around:
# National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa Eastern Cape is concerned about the growing crisis of inappropriate relationships between teachers and learners. This includes allegations of impregnation and pressure to terminate pregnancies. Provincial CEO Loyiso Mbinda says the union is educating educators on ethics and professionalism. Mbinda urges strict adherence to the South African Council for Educators’ code of conduct, warning that offenders face dismissal and deregistration. He calls on parents and communities to report misconduct and protect learners’ safety and dignity.
# The South African Medical Association has suspended all professional and bilateral relations with the Israeli Medical Association. SAMA says the Israeli Medical Association should be barred from the World Medical Association due to its conduct amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The suspension will remain until the Israeli Medical Association demands the release of detained Palestinian medical staff, condemns Gaza’s healthcare destruction, and ensures medical access for all under Israeli control.
# Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he hopes to announce the release of all hostages from Gaza in the coming days. This comes as Israel and Hamas get ready for negotiations on a US-proposed peace plan to end the war in Gaza. In a brief statement, Netanyahu said he has sent a delegation to Egypt to finalise technical details. Hamas would release the remaining 48 hostages — around 20 of them believed to be alive — within three days. It would give up power and disarm, while Israel is required to halt its offensive and withdraw from much of Gaza.
# Motorsport: Mercedes driver George Russell claimed a dominant victory in the Singapore Grand Prix to secure his second win of the season. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Lando Norris of McLaren finished second and third, respectively. Oscar Piastri had to settle for fourth, and his advantage over teammate Norris has now been reduced to 22 points in the drivers’ championship. Meanwhile, McLaren clinched the constructors’ championship for the second consecutive year. Russell says he is happy with this victory:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-22-cents and the euro at 20-rand-17-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-13-cents and Bitcoin trades at 123-thousand-550-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-910-dollars-21-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-15-cents a barrel.
