# For the first time, Killarney will play host to a round of the Gauteng Regional Extreme Festival next week Saturday. Motorsport enthusiasts can experience rare racing categories, including Mobil 1 V8 Supercars, Volkswagen Rookie Cup, Pabar VW Challenge, and DOE Formula Vee among others. The event will feature intense races, a car showcase and spinning. The public can also enjoy off-track entertainment with live music, stalls and food and beverage outlets.
# The Rooted Capital City Market in Pretoria East attracted over five-thousand visitors at the weekend. The three-day market featured live performances from musicians including Abrie van der Westhuysen and Etienne Pieterse, artworks, great food, fresh veggies, clothes, and jewellery. The market has been praised by residents for its family and pet-friendly environment and its aim to unite the community. The market is held every two to three months.
# The Cape Town Opera has invited young singers, aged nine-to-15 from the Cape Metro, to audition for its Children’s Chorus and Foundation Studio. This project-based chorus rehearses only a few weeks before each production or concert. It will be beneficial if applicants have at least one year of choral experience. The closing date for applications is the 23rd of next month, with auditions set to take place at the Artscape Theatre Centre on the 29th.
# University of Pretoria student, Nina du Preez, is set to visit England and Scotland after recently being awarded the Abe Bailey Travel Bursary. The bursary aims to broaden the views of young students and staff, encourage global leadership development, and cultivate linguistic and cultural diversity. The 23-year-old is doing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, majoring in Afrikaans and Ancient Culture Studies. Du Preez says the programme will allow her to engage with like-minded individuals and challenge her perspectives.
# And, the Marvel Studios movie Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman collected over eight-billion-rand globally in its opening weekend. This makes it the sixth-highest grossing of the year. So far, over 13.6-million people have bought tickets to see the movie, on par with last year’s blockbuster Barbie. Twisters, starring Glen Powell, has dropped down to second in the box office followed by Universal and Illumination’s Despicable Me 4.
