# Pick n Pay has partnered with the Southern African Agri Initiative to strengthen support for local farmers including more exposure to consumers. This is through a television show and sponsorship of the annual Lamb Champs competition. Now in its third year, the competition showcases some of the country’s best lamb. Saai CEO, Francois Rossouw, says the competition allows consumers to have a greater appreciation for the products:
# A Walter Sisulu University third-year Bachelor of Computer Science student has developed a campus navigation application. Sibulele Ngwane says the primary goal of Campus Compass, is to address common navigation challenges across university buildings, particularly for new students getting lost or arriving late for lectures to ease their anxiety and stress. He says the application is more than just a navigation tool, it represents a commitment to enhancing the academic journey for everyone at WSU.
# The University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Education has introduced a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Management. This is the first professional degree in this field offered at a South African university and proposes an alternative route to a doctorate from an appropriate research-based or master’s degree. The university says the proposed qualification will benefit educational professionals from within and outside the country, and contribute to the transformation of South African education.
# The world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for homeless people, Street Store South Africa, is celebrating ten years. It was founded in 2014 as a collaboration between a Cape Town ad agency, M&C Saatchi Abel, and the Haven Night Shelter in Green Point. To date, more than one-thousand Street Stores have taken place in more than 60 countries across the globe, which have gone on to clothe and support more than one million people.
# And finally: The 25th edition of the Cape Town Funny Festival kicked off for its month-long run, featuring local and international comics. The festival will host no less than 27 shows at the Baxter Theatre until the seventh of July. The schedule includes performances by comedic talents, including Dalin Oliver, Khanyisa Bunu, Dillan Oliphant, Sifiso Nene, Kagiso KG Mokgadi and Yaseen Barnes.
