# A rare and expensive ring featuring the Eden Rose pink diamond from South Africa is expected to fetch over 188-million-rand at Christie’s Auction House in New York tomorrow. The ten-carat, fancy, intense flawless pink diamond is on display at the Rockefeller Centre until today. International head of Jewelry, Rahul Kadakia, describes the Eden Rose as an old stone with its source of colour from the pressure in the stone:
# The University of the Witwatersrand says the newly acquired Phase One system with a 150-megapixel camera, represents a significant advancement in digitisation technology. The versatility of the new system includes the ability to digitise a wide range of materials, including 3D Objects, mounted and unmounted film, photographic prints, slides, glass plates, and artefacts. The university’s Digitisation Centre manager, Azizo Da Fonseca, says this system opens up new possibilities for researchers:
# Nineteen runners who participated in the Comrades Marathon yesterday, have raised 160-thousand for Rainbows and Smiles. The charity provides emotional, social, and financial support to children with cancer. Over 20-thousand athletes tackled the 85.91-kilometre course between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Rainbows and Smiles founder Bonni Suckling says each of the 19 runners brought a personal connection to cancer, fuelling their dedication to the cause.
# The City of Cape Town’s Public Awareness team within the Urban Waste Management Directorate has had a series of interventions targeting spaza shops. This is aimed at informing them of their legal obligations around waste management and encouraging waste minimisation. A total of 193 spaza shops were visited last month. The city says the engagements strongly focused on waste-minimisation strategies such as re-use, recycling or avoidance of products with excessive packaging.
# And finally: Bad Boys: Ride or Die starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence topped the international box office at its opening weekend, making 906-million-rand. It is a sequel to 1995’s Bad Boys, 2003’s Bad Boys 2 and 2020’s Bad Boys for Life. The Garfield Movie claimed second place, Paramount’s kid’s film IF in third, fourth is Dakota Fanning’s supernatural horror film The Watchers, and Disney and 20th Century’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes rounded out the top five.
