# The Italian city of Naples tops Time Out’s world’s 20 best cities for food in 2024, with pizza Margherita as the must-eat dish. Second is Johannesburg with Kota sandwich the dish to eat followed by Lima, the capital of Peru with Ceviche. Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and Beijing, China, round off the top five. To compile the list, Time Out surveyed thousands of city-dwellers across the globe, quizzing the locals on the food options in their city, with a focus on quality and affordability.
# University of Fort Hare’s professor Patrick Osode has been awarded a C2 National Research Foundation Rating for his exceptional contributions to legal scholarship. A C2 rating is awarded to an applicant with a sustained recent record of producing a body of quality work, demonstrating the ability to conceptualise problems and apply research methods to investigate them. The university says this esteemed accolade for Osode, a revered scholar in Mercantile Law, highlights his profound impact on the field of law.
# Sony Music is reportedly in talks to buy Queen’s music catalogue for over 18-billion-rand. The rock band, fronted by Freddie Mercury until he died in 1991, is famous for hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You and Another One Bites The Dust. Earlier this year, Sony also acquired a 50-percent interest in Michael Jackson’s music from the late singer’s estate. Stars including Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Shakira and Barry Manilow have all sold off their music rights in recent years.
# The University of the Witwatersrand says fossils found on the shoreline of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe represent a completely new dinosaur species. This remarkable find, named Musankwa sanyatiensis, marks only the fourth dinosaur species named from Zimbabwe. The remains date back to the Late Triassic period, approximately 210 million years ago. Wits say it is represented by the remains of a single hind leg, including its thigh, shin, and ankle bones.
# And finally: South Africans are encouraged to take part in Slipper Day today, to make a difference in the lives of children fighting life-threatening illnesses. All funds raised go to Reach For A Dream. This year’s theme, Step into My Slippers, focuses on empathy, fun and stepping into the shoes of sick youngsters. Zapper’s head of marketing, Stephen Smith, says they have collaborated with Reach For A Dream, and now people can buy the Slipper Day 20-rand sticker through the Zapper app:
