# South Africa has earned five International Emmy Awards nominations, the most ever for an African country in a single year. MultiChoice has secured four nominations for Chasing the Sun 2, the Afrikaans crime drama Koek, hard-hitting documentary School Ties, and Catch Me a Killer, a psychological thriller where Charlotte Hope, playing Micki Pistorius, earned a nomination for best performance by an actress. Play Room Live is nominated in the kids: factual and entertainment category. Winners will be announced in New York on the 24th of November.
# A young filmmaker from Krugersdorp, Gauteng, Koketso Mlongo, has turned a childhood passion into a growing career. He has founded Universal Dreamers Production, volunteered on sets, and attended workshops to refine his skills. Known for his storytelling and cinematography, he has scripted, directed, and produced several short films. Mlongo says he has a deep love for storytelling and a strong dedication to continuing learning and improving. He adds his ultimate goal is to develop and refine his skills to become an internationally recognised top filmmaker.
# George mayor, Jackie von Brandis, and Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC, Ricardo Mackenzie, launched the inaugural George Festival 2025 – Culture, Art and Sport. The festival aims to foster inclusive community participation, stimulate the township economy, promote youth and arts development, and activate the local economy. George municipality’s spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose, says the festival will take place from the 13th to the 16th of December across multiple venues:
# Platinum North West TV has announced its official switch on on the first of October, marking the beginning of a new era of broadcasting for the province. CEO Jonathan Ramosei says the community-centered channel is dedicated to entertaining, informing, and inspiring audiences through content that reflects the diverse culture, talent, and voices of the province. He says Platinum North West TV intends to be at the forefront of film and television development in the province:
# And finally: Three-time Grammy winner Bad Bunny will perform the Super Bowl’s 60th halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in February. This marks the first time that the Puerto Rican musician has graced the Super Bowl stage. Bad Bunny says what he is feeling goes beyond himself, adding that this is for his people, culture, and history. He joins a coveted list of artists who have gotten the opportunity to headline the NFL’s biggest night, including Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen.
