Meanwhile, former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Tebow and her husband, American football star Tim Tebow, have welcomed their first child, a girl named Daphne Reign. Demi-Leigh says the name honours a beloved family matriarch and reflects her Christian faith. She explains the name Daphne is inspired by her great-aunt, while Reign symbolises spiritual royalty. The couple call their daughter an answered prayer, created to reign in purpose, love, and identity.
# The South African senior street dance group won gold in the street dance category at the Dance World Cup 2025 in Burgos, Spain. The team won with a final score of 95.7-percent for their bold, electric, and powerful performance, which blended hip-hop, Pantsula, and Amapiano. Often referred to as the ‘Olympics of Dance’, the competition features top-tier talent from over 50 countries. South Africa also claimed top honours in both the Junior and Senior Commercial Hip Hop. The competition ends on Saturday.
# The Thonga Beach Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park has been named South Africa’s Leading Beach Hotel at the 2025 World Travel Awards for the second year in a row. Celebrated for combining luxury with sustainability, the lodge supports marine conservation, turtle monitoring, and local community development through the Isibindi Foundation. It was praised for its eco-conscious approach, including plastic-free operations and reef education, which makes it a leader in purpose-driven tourism. The award highlights South Africa’s growing reputation for conservation-led hospitality on the global stage.
# And finally: Toymaker Mattel has launched its first Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes in a bid to foster a greater sense of inclusion and empathy among children. The new doll wears a small device that continuously measures her blood sugar. She also has a phone that displays an app to help track her blood sugar levels and a small, wearable insulin pump that allows for automated insulin dosing as needed. The doll is wearing a blue polka dot top and matching skirt inspired by global diabetes awareness symbols.
