# The Tshwane University of Technology and England’s Teesside University have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on various ventures. The partnership aims to exchange scholarly ideas, support student exchanges, and develop joint programmes. TUT’s deputy vice-chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement, Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka, says the agreement will be reviewed after five years:
# Four South African learners will have the opportunity to present their research projects and compete against other tech scientists at this year’s Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition in China. The competition, which will begin on Thursday, will be held under the theme Discovery, Innovation, and Responsibility. Eskom Expo executive director, Parthy Chetty, says Nyakallo Nonjabulo Mbongo, Kiyara Tami Swartbooi, Steffan Thielen and Rohan van Loggerenberg will benefit greatly from taking part in the competition:
# South African-born award-winning actress, Thuso Mbedu, has co-written an afro-fantasy comic series, Niobe: She-Tribe. The Underground Railroad star has joined forces with author Sebastian A Jones to co-write a new story in the publisher’s afro-fantasy Tales of Asunda series. Mbedu, who was recently announced as L’Oréal’s first black brand ambassador for sub-Saharan Africa, says never in her life did she ever imagine that she would do something as cool as co-writing a comic.
# Stellenbosch University Chemistry lecturer, Marietjie Lutz, will cycle from George to Stellenbosch over the Easter Weekend, covering 600 kilometres. This is to raise funds for undergraduate bachelor of science students facing financial challenges. Lutz says the inspiration for the Wheels of Opportunity initiative came after trying to find ways of helping a bright first-year student attending her classes in 2022:
# And finally: Iranian Swedish-born singer Snoh Aalegra has been announced as the first international headliner for the 2024 edition of Rocking the Daisies near Darling in the Western Cape. She is best known for songs like I Want You Around and Do 4 Love. The Grammy-nominated artist has collaborated with the likes of Alicia Keys and Drake. Rocking the Daisies will take place from the third to the sixth of October at Cloof Wine Estate. The proudly African, Billboard-ranked music and lifestyle festival is celebrating 19 years.
