# South African dancer Musa Motha dazzled audiences on the America’s Got Talent stage alongside English singer and songwriter Calum Scott. The duo performed Scott’s hit single ‘You Are The Reason’ during the Grand Finale. Motha is currently in Hollywood for America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League. Scott rose to fame on Britain’s Got Talent in 2015, where he received judge Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer. Motha described the experience as a dream come true.
# Two white Bengal tigers previously housed in a Boksburg suburb have found a new home in an NSPCA-accredited wildlife facility in the Free State. The tigers were first spotted on a property next to a daycare centre in 2021. National Council of SPCAs says the tigers’ release was both magnificent and heartbreaking, with the animals taking excited leaps to freedom while interacting with grass for the first time.
# An orphaned elephant calf named Phabeni has been embraced by an elephant mom and her daughter at the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development Sanctuary in Limpopo. Phabeni, rescued in November last year at just four months old, has found solace and care within the adoptive herd. Setombe, the elephant mom, has welcomed Phabeni into the fold, allowing the little one to suckle, marking the beginning of an unexpected bond.
# The University of Johannesburg has secured an approximately 8.1-million-rand European Union grant, to lead a digital transformation initiative in South African Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges. The project is called Promotion of Technology-Enhanced Learning and Digital Education or Pro-TELDE. UJ’s professor Tankiso Moloi says the project recognises the need for TVET institutions to equip their students with digital skills and competencies essential for success in the modern workplace.
# And finally: KwaZulu-Natal-based non-profit organisation, Grace Factory, says it will soon be hosting its first knit-athon. This is to make baby clothes that will be included in bags and sent to mothers in public hospitals. People are being urged to donate wool to make beanies, jerseys, and blankets. The organisation says these items will support vulnerable mothers and their babies during the crucial early weeks of motherhood and infancy.
