# The South African Wind Energy Association has welcomed the deadline extension for comments on the draft Integrated Resource Plan to the 23rd of next month. The IRP is an electricity generation plan that seeks to ensure the security of electricity supply. The association’s CEO, Niveshen Govender, says the extension offers the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy an opportunity to incorporate president Cyril Ramaphosa’s vision for more renewable energy, which will create a more robust, aggressive and inspiring IRP that prioritises a secure supply of electricity.
# The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate says the first six months of the 2023/2024 financial year have been a success in clearing alien invasive plants. This has been done with the help of the Greater Cape Town Water Fund. Mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says 16.1 billion litres of water were replenished, equivalent to 44 million litres of water per day, by clearing 30-thousand-972 initial hectares and 18-thousand-740 follow-up hectares of alien plant species:
# And finally: The George Municipality in the Western Cape says tyres have now been used to beautify certain illegal dumping sites and encourage plant growth to stop communities from repeatedly dumping at the same place. Residents are urged to help the city to curb illegal dumping by spreading the news that the dumping of waste is dangerous and a health hazard. The municipality’s spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose, says waste should be collected in refuse bags and placed for collection on waste removal days:
