# Johannesburg missed its traditional 1 September reopening date for municipal pools. The city announced yesterday all 36 public pools will open in a phased approach from 1 October. The mayoral committee member for Community Development, Thapelo Amad, apologised, saying pools still need to meet health, safety and operational standards. He says opening will be staggered as conditions vary across regions, with the season extended to April 2027 to compensate. He says the city is working to resolve compliance and maintenance issues.
